Believe Preaching Series: This weekend, Jan. 12 & 13, during the sermon time, we will be looking at chapter 12 of the Believe book. Please read chapter 13 for next weekend’s services on January 19 & 20. A Sunday Night Live (SNL) class on the Believe book begins the evening of January 13 (see page 2 for a list of SNL classes offered beginning January 13).
Acolyte Training Class: If you are in third grade or older and would like to be an acolyte at Bethel, Pastor Dave will be holding an acolyte training after the second service on January 20th. If you have not been trained or would like a refresher on your acolyte training, please plan to attend this training. 2019 Annual Congregation Meeting: This meeting will take place on Sunday, January 27 in the Christ Center. Immediately following the 10:30am worship service on Jan. 27, there will be a light luncheon from 11:45am to 12:30pm followed by the annual meeting at approximately 12:30pm. At the meeting, we will celebrate 2018 as we look forward into 2019, elect new council members, and vote on the 2019 budget. We hope you can be a part of the meeting that usually doesn’t last more than an hour or so.
Mentors Needed: Mentors are still needed for our confirmands in Bethel’s Youth Ministry program. We are looking for adult mentors to walk alongside confirmation students and their parents. GriefShare Class: Grief can be a confusing time when you feel isolated and have many questions about things you’ve never faced before. Healing from grief is not an easy thing to do. It is a long and sometimes painful process. If you’ve lost a spouse, child, family member, or friend, GriefShare is a place where you will find caring people who understand the issues you face. Don’t go through the grieving process alone. Join us Wednesday mornings at 9:30am in the New Creation room for the GriefShare class. “Believe” Class—Join us as we discuss the key questions of what it means to be a Christian and how that applies to our everyday lives. This class meets in Classroom #3 off of the Christ Center and is led by Pastor Dan.
Movies—Join this group in the Faith Forum beginning at 4:00 PM on Jan. 13 for viewing of the movie Let There Be Light. We will take a break at 5:15 to get food from the supper provided in the Christ Center and then start the movie where it had been stopped after dinner. Popcorn will be provided, please bring something to drink.
Parenting Class—Do you worry about your child or teen’s exposure to things online? Do you want to be able to connect with your kids and teens in a very digital world? Join Pastor Dave as he leads this new class on Kids, Teens and Technology. The class meets in Room 103 in the Sunday School wing.
Financial Peace University: FPU is a class that offers life skills in money management and it begins January 13 and ends March 17. Blood Pressure Screenings at Bethel: Please add these dates to your calendar to get your blood pressure screening between services in the narthex area on January 13, February 10, March 17, April 14, May 12 and June 16.

DINING OUT— The Dining Out group meets on a Monday night near the end of each month at a local restaurant. Contact Dave or Cheryl Bingham with questions.
MICROBREW CREW— This group meets once a month. The next meeting will be at the Cerberus Brewing Company on Monday, January 14 at 6:00 PM. The address is 702 W Colorado Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80905. Contact Dave Bingham with questions or to get on this group’s emailing list.
VARIETY DANCE CLASS—This dance class includes Ballroom, Line Dance, 2-Step, and Partner Pattern Dancing depending on interest. The group meets each Saturday beginning at 4:00 PM in the Christ Center. Questions? Please contact Dave or Cheryl Bingham.
Travel Opportunity: The Bethel travel group is planning a trip to Australia/New Zealand on March 9-27, 2020. It seems like a long way off, but since this is an international cruise open to the world, we can only promote it for a few months in 2018 and then the cruise line takes over and our group cabins are no longer available. Pastor John will have official brochures, and $1,000 deposits per person are being accepted with the registration right now. Since there has been a lot of interest in this trip, I would encourage you to sign up soon, if you are interested, so as to hold a spot on the trip. The registrations are based on two to a cabin with no single cabins available, but we are happy to try our best to match people with a cabin mate. Please direct all questions to Pastor John and let him know of your interest in the trip. A signup sheet is located in the narthex sign up area. We have 3 cabins left.
INREACH & OUTREACH OPPORTUNITIES
Winter Survival Gear Donation: The Bethel Senior Group is once again sponsoring a campaign to help those without adequate shelter during the cold winter months by collecting donations of winter survival gear (tarps, blankets, sleeping bags, winter coats, stocking hats, wool socks, mittens, gloves, etc.). Please help us to meet the needs of the most vulnerable members of our community this winter. Donation/collection boxes will be in the narthex from January 13—February 3. Kindness Kits: The Outreach Team would like to thank everyone for their participation in the Kindness Kits over the last year. The team has decided to discontinue this ministry to support the city’s new Homeless Action Plan (please go to the following website to see an article for more details: https://coloradosprings.gov/homeless-prevention-and-response-0/article/news/city-releases-homeless). All of the bags currently found in the narthex area, and any additional items, will be donated to the Springs Rescue Mission and Mercy’s Gate. Thank you again for your support!
Hope, Hearts, and Home Benefit Luncheon: Family Promise of Colorado Springs invites you to The Antlers on Sunday, Feb. 24th from 12:30 – 2:30 PM for their 22nd annual Hope, Hearts, and Home Benefit Luncheon. This event aims to raise funds and awareness for Family Promise’s ongoing mission—to assure that families with children, in the midst of housing instability, have a place to stay and a future to move toward. “Ultimate Garage Sale”—POSTPONED to March 9th! Bethel’s Youth will be hosting a garage sale on Saturday, March 9 to help raise funds for their 2019 Mission Trips this summer. They would like to help you get rid of your things! Donation days at Bethel have been set for March 7 & 8 from 6—9pm. If you have questions, please connect with Sedra or Bethany W., Bethel’s youth representative for this project. The youth are looking for any and all items and can arrange item pick up as needed (no TV’s or large furniture please).
Tax Time: During the coming tax season, Paul Nervig will be volunteering as a return preparer for the IRS VITA program. This is a free service and they are seeking volunteers who will be willing to train to prepare taxes for lower income people ($54,000 or less). It is a limited time commitment beginning in February and running through April 15. The group is looking for people who can join them at the Helen Hunt Non-Profit Center and/or the Sand Creek Library sponsored by REACH Pikes Peak (http://www.reachpikespeak.org/). Confirmation Class—(Date Change!): This class meets each Sunday morning in the Middle School room downstairs from 9:15 to 10:15 AM. The student, mentor & parents meeting that was scheduled for January 6 will now be held on February 3 during class time. The February 3 meeting will be a family orientation to the confirmation mentor program. Adult mentors are still needed for some students. BLOC CAFÉ—A High School Ministry: Attend this group each Sunday morning where high school youths in grades 9-12 get to learn and discuss relevant topics related to their faith in a relaxed and inviting atmosphere—the class is currently working on the TRUE U series. COLLEGE KIDS CORRESPONDENCE: CKC is Bethel’s ministry opportunity created to support our out-of-town college students. It is a weekly “card shower” and each week a name and address of our Bethel college “Student of the Week” will be provided. Simply send these Bethel family members “best wishes” or “keep up the good work” words of encouragement, add a stamp and drop it in the mail. Men’s Ministry Breakfast— Calling all men! This group meets once a month on a Saturday morning in the Christ Center from 7:45am until 9:15am. Our next meeting will be January 19th! Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Evening Women’s Class—BSF classes meet Monday evenings at 6:55 PM at Bethel. This group’s study title this year is “People of the Promised Land, Part I” – this study will cover the timeline from Joshua to Solomon. L.I.F.E. Bible Study: Ladies, please join us as we study “Psalms, Prayers of the Heart”. We learn how the Psalms show us how to relate to God through prayer and to respond to God in praise.
