Confirmation Need! A few more mentors for our first-year confirmation students are needed right away. A Confirmation Mentor develops a spiritual and personal relationship with a confirmation youth during his/her two years of instruction that can last beyond the confirmation program. The mentor helps to strengthen the confirmation youth’s understanding of his/her faith through contact both within and outside the program. If you would like to help a youth as a confirmation mentor, please contact Sedra at the church office or Mary Jane Stanley. Thank you for considering this important ministry!

 

Parents of Teens or Soon-to-Be Parents of Teens: Do you want to understand what life is like for today’s teenagers? Looking for help and support in trying to be a better parent for your adolescent? Join Pastor Dave for the new class: “Parenting a New Generation” on Sundays from 5:45—7:30 PM in room 103 (downstairs in the Sunday School wing—directly across from the stairs).  The class begins on February 11th.  Please sign up on the tear-off slip or contact Pastor Dave ([email protected]).

Winter Survival Gear Donation Campaign: The Senior Group at Bethel is sponsoring a campaign to help those without adequate shelter during the cold winter months by collecting donations of winter survival gear (tarps, blankets, sleeping bags, winter coats, stocking hats, wool socks, mittens, gloves, etc.). Please help us to meet the needs of the most vulnerable members of our community.  Donation boxes will be in the narthex through February 11. Lenten Soup Suppers are Coming Soon!  Lenten Soup Suppers begin on February 21st and continue for a total of 5 weeks.  “Need” Requests are sent out via CCB for each week requesting soup, bread and help with set-up, serving and clean-up. We are also looking for a few folks to help coordinate each week at the suppers.  There is easy on-the-job training for a coordinator with a list of tasks. All-Church Talent Show at Bethel! On February 24th at 6:30 PM, we would like you to perform your talent for the church! Be it singing, dancing, playing an instrument, etc., bring your talent front and center to an audience of interested listeners—and a few judges! If you would like to be involved in this All-Church Talent Show, please contact David Bingham today.  A free-will offering will be collected at this event to help support our youth summer activities.

 

First Communion Class: Would you like to know more about communion? Are you in third grade (or older) and waiting for communion instruction? Then, please join us on March 4th at 12:00pm for our First Communion Class. This class is for children in third grade or older that have not received communion instruction. The cost for the class is $15 per child. We ask that all children be accompanied by at least one parent/caregiver for the class (other family members are welcome). The class will include lunch and each child will get to paint their own communion chalice to keep. After taking the class, children will be invited to participate in their First Communion at the Maundy Thursday Service and Drama on March 29 at 7:00 PM. To register or learn more about the class contact Pastor Dave ([email protected]).

 

Change your life by better understanding money management: Financial Peace University is a class that offers life skills in money management.  This is a class for all adults, kids (High School & up), parents & friends.  Bethel will be offering the FPU class starting March 4 through May 6 (9 sessions) on Sunday Nights.  Follow this link for more information: http://www.daveramsey.com/fpu. Beginner Dog Training Class: Bethel member and dog trainer Curt Libengood has begun a new Beginner Dog Training Class on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-7:30 pm in the Christ Center. The class will run for approximately 5 weeks and end on March 6th. The class is for dog owners and their dogs. There is no cost to attend, but dogs need to be up-to-date on all their vaccinations and all dogs need to be on leash that is not a retractable leash. THE COMFORT MAKERSThis group meets the 1st & 3rd Tuesday each month at 9:00am in the Christ Center. Always welcome are quilters, assistants and anyone interested in joining us. The quilts are sent to Lutheran World Relief near the end of each year. Connections Group: Boomers and Beyond—This group is targeted to singles and couples in their 50’s and 60’s though is not exclusive. It is a fellowship and discussion group of mutual support, laughter, food and fun. The next meeting is Friday, February 23rd at 7:00 PM at the Witkop’s home. INREACH & OUTREACH OPPORTUNITIES

Family Promise: Come celebrate Family Promise’s amazing 2017 at the Hope, Hearts & Home Luncheon at Hotel Elegante on Feb. 25th.  Family Promise helped a record number of families in 2017 and Bethel played a huge part with hosting IHN, renovating a Hope Home, having a house warming shower & participating in the fundraising walk. A flyer about the luncheon is on the Outreach bulletin board on the kiosk in the Narthex.  Please see Sharon or David Roberts if you are interested in attending the luncheon.

 

Mercy’s Gate Thursday Ministry: Are you looking for an opportunity to serve our community but do not have a lot of time to give? This is the ministry for you! Mercy’s Gate Thursday Ministry will make and serve breakfast and lunch to low income families at Mercy’s Gate on the last Thursday of each Month. We need people to prepare the meals at Bethel and people to serve them at Mercy’s Gate. Each team member can volunteer as little as 1.5 hours or sign up for more if desired. Attention All VDC 4th Dayers: Exciting news…Weekend 41 is coming! On April 26-29, 2018, our group will gather at La Foret Conference & Retreat Center in the Black Forest. CHILDREN MINISTRIES & SUNDAY SCHOOL

Join us at KidtricityBethel’s highly energetic and fantastically fun kids’ program: Kidtricity is in session each Sunday morning at 9:15 AM.  All children from age 3 to fifth grade are invited to participate (parents are always welcome too!) in an hour of outrageous fun as everyone learns from God’s Word! There is no cost to attend and you can register your child for the program by going to www.bethellutheran.net and under the Ministries tab (on the top of the screen) select Children’s Ministry. Summer Spectacular Day Camps: Summer programs here at Bethel are just the ticket to an incredible summer!  This summer we have revamped our Day Camp program with a whole new approach to fun.  We are excited to offer 7 different weeks of Day Camp. Each weekly camp has its own unique theme, Bible stories, activities and special presentations! The weekly camps run Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM each day. They are for children entering first grade to entering 6th grade (older youth may serve as volunteers, but will need to fill out a one-page application and attend a training session). Each camp costs $100 per participant, per week. You can register for any or all weekly camps by going to www.bethellutheran.net, clicking on the ‘Ministries’ tab (top center of page) and selecting ‘Summer Spectacular Day Camps’. We expect these camps to fill up fast (they are limited to 35 kids per week), so please register soon! Registration to the general public will begin on February 5th, so Bethel members and friends are encouraged to register now! Contact Pastor Dave with any questions.

‘Fun Down Under’ VBS: G’day mate, join us for a trip down under with a VBS that brings the fun of Australia right here to Bethel! Fun Down Under will run June 18-21, Monday-Thursday from 9:00 AM—11:30 AM each day. Fun Down Under is for children age 4 (or at least entering their second year of preschool) to entering 4th grade. The week will be filled with lots of silly Australian puppets (yes, Platy the Platypus will be there), costume characters, including our new kangaroo mascot, and some powerful Bible stories. Cost is $10 a child or $25 a family. Registration forms are available online at www.bethellutheran.net (near the top center of the page click on the ‘Ministries’ tab and then select ‘Fun Down Under VBS’. Questions? Contact Pastor Dave.

 

Middle School Bible Study: For all 6th-8th graders, on Sundays we meet for an hour (9:15-10:15am) of fun interaction and learning from the Bible. We meet in the Middle School Room downstairs. High School Bible Study: For all 9th-12th graders, we meet every Sunday from 9:15-10:15am in the High School Room downstairs. A new series begins on February 4th on the book of Revelation. Adult Sunday School—New Creations Bible Study:  The New Creations Bible Study class is studying the book of Romans.  It is a Bible-based study with interactive discussion. Any are welcome to drop in as they can. This class will meet in the Library/Conference Room each Sunday at 9:15am.

 

Adult Sunday School—Faith Lessons from the Holy Land: Pastor John leads this class. It is video-based and shot on location in Israel. Each class is a stand-alone lesson that incorporates teachings from the Holy Land with our own faith journey. The class will take us on a round trip to ancient times, places and customs, and back again. This lively, interactive journey is more than fascinating; it’s faith-inspiring and life-changing. We would love to have you join us each Sunday morning at 9:15 AM in the Faith Forum on the main floor just past the Gathering Space (donut area).

 

 

YOUTH NEWS

Confirmation Class:  Our two-year confirmation class for youth currently in 7th and 8th grade continues each Sunday from 4:15pm to 5:30pm. We are still looking for a few mentors to be paired with our first-year students. Please let Sedra, Dave Geffre, or Mary Jane Stanley know if you are feeling called to be a mentor.

 

Youth Activities

[6th—12th Grade]

Youth Nights (5:45—7:30 PM on Sundays): All Middle & High School youth are invited to join us every Sunday for youth Night! We will be playing games, enjoying some snacks and having some discussions centered around the Bible. We will close the night with a couple all-time favorite worship songs. Come join us!

 

All-Church Talent Show (Saturday, Feb. 24th @ 6:30pm): This will have a gong show theme once again and the grand finale will be the song and dance of ‘Robin Hood – Men in Tights’. (This will be a Youth Fundraiser for the 2018 Youth Mission Trip). 2018 Idaho Servant Adventure: (June 26-July 1, 2018) Registration for this summer High School mission trip is open! Reserve your spot!

COLLEGE KIDS CORRESPONDENCE: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jer. 29:11) This is our ministry opportunity created to support our out-of-town college students. It’s a “card shower.” Each week a name and address of our Bethel college “Student of the Week” will be provided in the printed Bethel Blessings. Simply send these Bethel family members “best wishes” or “keep up the good work” words of encouragement, add a stamp and drop it in the mail. You can confirm if your student is on the college list by contacting Carol Vogeney.

**Morning Groups

RUTH Bible Study—RUTH Bible Study meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month from 9:30-11:00am in the library (you can come early to socialize at 9:15am, if you would like).  This group began a new study of the book, Glory Days—Trusting in the God Who Fights for You, by Max Lucado (about the book of Joshua).  We would love to have you join us!  The book is $12.00, contact Sarah to inquire about a book or you may order your book through Amazon.  If you have any questions, contact Sarah Wulfsberg.

Monument Bible Study—An adult Bible study is ongoing in the Monument area at the home of Wayne & Theresa Guthals. The group meets each Monday evening at 6:30pm and began a new study entitled “Wiser Together”. If you are interested in attending, please contact Theresa Guthals.

 

Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Evening Women’s Class—Classes meet each Monday evening at 6:55 PM at Bethel.  This year’s study is on the book of Romans. If you have questions, please email BSF contact/leader Heather Watson at [email protected] for more information.

 

L.I.F.E. (Living in Faith Everyday) Bible Study—This class is open to all women who would like to dig deeper into God’s Word, but who do not have time for a weekly study or are not able to meet during the day. Joyfully Exploring” Bible Study—This is a study for any adult who is interested in exploring the Bible—starting with Ephesians. It is being led by Stephany Green and meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month from 6:30-8:00pm.
